February 12 Iwokrama Trip- part twoso i wanted to see a jaguar. that was basically my 'goal' for the trip.
...i didn't see one.
so that was sad.
we did see lots of other animals though.
bats (too many bats!)
birds (*yawn.)
random rodents (see "Ki Ki" below. he's from the raccoon family. and is a pet for some people who live in the Amerindian village that we visited)
deer (here's a baby randomly trying to cross the wide alligator-invested river by itself:)
snakes so, i suppose we saw a lot, even if we didn't see jaguars.
Turtle Mountain was the main hike we did. it was exhausting. like, wayyy more than i expected it to be.
the view at the top was nice though.
oh, i should mention that there was another 'sibling' couple on the trip with us. they reminded me a bit of some relatives. one of them knew my dad and went to school with him. and the other person is good friends with my aunt & uncle in england. small world.
early on in the hike, i asked if there were any mushrooms around. ..just to make conversation.
the guide answered 'yes', and for the rest of the trip whenever there were mushrooms around, people would point them out to me.
it was fairly hilarious, b/c i didn't really care at all.
so at the top of the mountain, our guide was enjoying the view with the other guy, and us three females were ready to go, so we just started to walk down by ourselves.
it wasn't a big deal, cuz we knew they'd be coming soon, and we were going pretty slow.
as expected, they caught up to us fairly quickly. and so we were walking in a line: the woman, me, sis, the man, the guide.
i can't remember exactly what we were talking about, i think i had just finished singing a tune from a commercial, and my sis was talking about some nonsense...
but from behind us our guide made a soft noise that caught our attention and we turned around.
he pointed to the ground by where the 4 of us had just walked.
lol, totally oblivious, we had all trotted by a poisonous snake that was alert and ready to strike. his head was up and he was probably going to bite the 4th or 5th person who walked past. so, needlesstosay, the guide took over his position at the front of the line. :) one of the other main things we did was the Canopy Walkway. it was about 9 stories up from the forest floor, and while i'm sure it was perfectly safe, it was fairly scary. i mean, it's not like they had steel poles below the thing or anything. ...it was mostly held up by ropes. on the ride back from the walkway we came across this:
i suppose it looks like no big deal. ...but my sis and i felt like it was. one of those situations where if you make a mistake, if you sneeze, you might plummet to your death.
